How to use the dicitonary
The InstantSpeak Talking Dictionary contains audio pronunciations of words and their definitions. It does not contain phrases. Searches are not case sensitive.
Searching Pinyin
To search for a compound word separate each character with a space (Ex. bei jing). You can add the tone to a character (Ex. bei3 jing1).

How was the InstantSpeak Talking Dictionary created?
The InstantSpeak Talking Dictionary is based on the CEDICT which was started by Paul Denisowski. The dictionary now resides on Erik Peterson's Mandarin Tools site which is full of useful Chinese computing resources.
The dictionary was layed out with consultation from Hugues Marty. Mr. Marty operates a Chinese dictionary based on the CEDICT called Xiao Ma Cidian which is an excellent resource.
HSK lists were provided by "Roddy" who operates the Chinese forums discussion groups. The Chinese forums is the most popular dicussion board on the Internet dedicated to learning Chinese.
The three thousand most frequently used characters with their definitions were provided by Patrick Hassel Zein. Mr. Zein is a language expert living in Sweden.
Can I contribute to the InstantSpeak Talking Dictionary?
Words and definitions can be contributed by email. Please send your additions to: support@instantspeak.com
